Hardware tuners:
Easy HDTV and Easy HDTV DVR require an ATSC or ATSC/QAM hardware tuner. ATSC is the digital television standard used for Over The Air (OTA) television broadcasts in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Korea. Hardware tuners come in several varities, some are cards that plug into a computers PCI or PCIE slots. Some connect to a computer by a USB port and one even connects by eithernet. Here are some available hardware tuners:
MPEG-2 and AC3 Decoders:
Easy HDTV and Easy HDTV DVR requires an MPEG-2 video
decoder, sometimes known as a DVD decoder and an AC3 Audio decoder. Most HDTV tuners come with an
MPEG-2 video decoder as part of their included software. If your HDTV
tuner did not come with an MPEG-2 video decoder or AC3 audio decoder, you will need to get one to
run Easy HDTV or Easy HDTV DVR. Here are some available MPEG-2 video and AC3 decoders:
NVIDIA PureVideo DVD Decoder
Cyberlink PowerDVD SE
InterVideo DVD XPack
ffdshow (Free) It's AC3 audio decoder has a great "Normalize" feature for averaging out the loud commercials.
Dscaler 5.0.0.8 (Free) We don't recommend using the MPEG-2 decoder included in this package as it is software only and has some problems with dynamic video size changes, but the AC3 decoder can be used with Vista which includes an MPEG-2 decoder, but no AC3 decoder.
